Day One Post Vegas

Welcome to Struggle City, Population: Me

Today was a mess.

I arrived at JFK International Airport at 12am last night and was picked up by my mother and brother. It took us about an hour and 15ish minutes to get home. Once home, I ate a bowl of left over pasta and caught up with my mom. Finally, after way too long, I showered and crawled into my bed. By then it was about 2am.

My alarm was set for 6:10 this morning but of course I hit snooze. I rolled out of bed at 6:30, brushed my teeth, put on jeans and the first black shirt in my closet and was standing at the bus stop by 7. I passed out on the bus as soon as I sat down.

I woke up as we were leaving the Lincoln Tunnel and hitting 34th st. I forgot that I don’t have as much time to recover from my early morning nap as I used to now that my office is the second stop instead of the 9th so I almost missed it. I ran up the middle isle of the bus and may or may not have ran into a chair in the process. Super embarrassing. Cool.

I got to the front of the bus as the driver was closing the door. I yelled hey and scared the woman in the front seat. He looked back and realized who I was and then let me jump off just before the light turned green. Once off the bus and still groggy from sleep, I hobbled to the Dunkin Donuts a few doors away from my office and spent the last $2 I had on my Dunkin Perks card on a small coffee. Apparently I was too tired to even finish the coffee so that was a waste. I stumbled into my building hugging my coffee and finally made it to mg cubicle without running into anything else. Of course I was 45 minutes early because I take an annoyingly early bus every day just in case there’s traffic. I sat at my desk ate my zucchini cake and drank about a third of my coffee while perusing the emails I’d gotten over the weekend.

Finally by 9am everyone was in and asking how my vacay was. I left out the gory details and showed them the picture of me miserably eating my chicken fingers while hungover at a pool party, (see image below.) The rest of my day was filled with projects and trying my hardest to stay awake.

At about 2:30 I went on a hunt for soup as a second lunch. Instead I found this awesome rice and a iced pumpkin spiced latte from Starbucks. the woman at the counter didn’t want to give it to me at first but then let me have it without even knowing the code to unlock it… Love her. It tasted funny but it’s fine because I miss fall and pumpkin.

Overall, I didn’t die today, which is definitely a win. The girl I work with who went to Vegas two weekends ago kept asking if I was crashing and I kept trying to tell her that you can’t crash when you’re already at the bottom.

I think this is my favorite picture from my trip to Las Vegas, I’m just sitting at some random people’s table that they paid $5,000 for, eating chicken fingers and ignoring everyone. Pure mess right there.

This is getting out of hand

Well, here I am. On the bus to work at 7 am with a really obnoxious woman speaking to her friend on speaker.

T minus 13 hours until take off.

I’m freaking out. Duh.

I feel so ill-prepared. But the exciting thing is that I finally figured out my outfits… Kinda.. I separated them into pool and night outfits then took pictures of them so I would remember what goes with what before packing them away. Hopefully we don’t go anywhere else besides the pool and the club because I don’t have the outfits to support a real place.

My sister and I have decided not to check in a bag in order to bypass that annoying $50 luggage charge. Because of this, I’ve had to fit enough shit for 4 full days into a little baby carry-on. And here are the results:

We will start with Day Outfits:

My first bathing suit is a high wasted number from Forever 21. I think the patterns is extremely exciting. I’ve decided to wear a high wasted lace skirt from a boutique by my old office over it, and a plain white tank from Cotton On to get through the lobby of the hotel without getting yelled at for being naked. The sandals are BCBG and will be worn on the plane, as well as with another bathing suit, to save room in my carry on and so that I didn’t have to buy more shoes.

Next bathing suit is a brown Tommy Bahama two piece from a few years ago that I will always love. The lace dress going over it is from Saks Fifth Ave and the sandals I’ve had (and broke) for a few years. It’s no biggie. I just refused to wear wedges at the pool. I’m way too clumsy for that.

Third and final bathing suit is from Venus. The kimono to go over it is from Cotton On and here are the shoes I am wearing with the first bathing suit. All fun and games.

Now for Night Outfits:

While scrolling theough my Going Out Attire” keep in mind that all of the outfits I will be wearing out at night are designed with the utmost comfort in mind. I am not the kind of girl that will sacrifice to look attractive in an outfit, so I plan what I wear based on what I will be least miserable in, and try to look as classy as possible.

Outfit 1:

Kara Clothing Body Suit, Asos shorts, Michael Kors shoes (which are my sisters but match the shorts perfectly!) and this really cute vintage clutch thing that my mom had in her closet (three cheers for moms with amazing fashion sense)

Outfit 2:

The jump suit I will be wearing for outfit 2 is from a boutique next door to my old office called Dor le Dor. I usually have too long a torso to wear body suits but this one fits perfectly and will be paired with Zara heels I bought this summer (on sale online- awesome!) and my red Chanel cross body (which is the love of my life, obviously.) This will no doubt be the most comfortable outfit I bring this weekend since it is long pants, which you can’t tell because I had to fold them up to get them in the picture.

Outfit 3:

I’m still not sure why I bought this outfit. It is super cute but it’s nothing like what I usually wear. I was really weary about it but both my sisters and my boyfriend said it needed to happen. So there I was in Kara in the Staten Island mall pretty torn over this skirt/crop top combo, but the fam won out and I will be dressed as a flower cupcake for outfit 3. This outfit will also include the Zara shoes, again firstly to save space in the carry on and secondly because I couldn’t spend anymore money. I found a clutch in my closet from God knows when and decided it went perfectly so that is how the bag was picked.

And finally, the back up outfit:

Kara skirt, boutique shirt, Zara heels, and Chanel crossbody come together to form a sporty/chic type look that’ll pretty much feel like I’m wearing sweatpants (the best feeling ever of course.)

And those are my outfits. A lot of opinions and money went into these because I can’t make a decision and I’m an idiot, so there you go.

I’ve packed my toiletries into a 1 quart bag and made sure to grab my straightening and curling irons.

Everything I need is packed into these perfect Louis Vuitton luggage set that belongs to my father. Him and my mother have a matching set so my sister and I will be borrowing them this weekend.

It’s all very glamorous but I’m just trying not to die from exhaustion/nerves/excitement.

So here is the what is promising to be a fantastic weekend with family and friends! CHEERS

Home stretch

The last few weeks have been rough man… I need a break. But I’m not getting one so here’s some info:

Firstly, I am almost done packing for my trip to Vegas! Which is awesome because I leave in less than 48 hours. Oy.

Second, here is a sneak peak of my outfits which I will be writing about sometime in the next 45 hours. (There’s also a really funny picture of me and my boyfriend on our friend’s sail boat this weekend. Good stuff.)

Third, I still have an annoying amount of stuff to do before I go and I’m starting to panic.

But here’s to the insane amount of coffee I’ll be drinking to stay awake tomorrow!

Vegas Countdown: 7 Days

I feel like if there were ever a time to freak out it would be now. I’m very quickly running out of time and I don’t know if I can handle this pressure.

While I finally have a few outfits for going out at night, I still need another bathing suit and cover up, shoes and another shirt! And to top it off, I am a certified mess. I feel like I’m running around like a chicken without a head. It’s irritating, to say the least.

Monday night I went to the mall after work and used the hour and a half till close to look for outfits. It was definitely a success and I walked out of Kara (I spent the whole time in one store… typical)  with a full outfit, a shirt for the shorts I was going to wear anyway and a skirt. This hefty addition brings my outfit count for next weekend up to 3 and a half, which includes a black jumpsuit I’ve owned for a bit but have never worn. Cool. I’m still on the look out for a shirt for my lone skirt. Keeping my eyes peeled people. It needs a buddy. My mom might have helped me with that… I’ll find out tonight.

Next I need shoes. I am borrowing a pair of heels from my little sister because the color matches my shorts perfectly, and I plan on wearing these new Zara heels I bought last month at least twice, (they’re black, so they match my life and my outfits perfectly.) Depending on the color shirt I find for the skirt, the Zara heels may end up being worn every night except for shorts night. I’m not worried about repeating. My sister won’t be wearing the same shoes more than once but I don’t have that kind of patience. She’s a fashion goddess and I’m just trying to make it up the mountain. Moving on.

Once the shirt and shoes are secure and everything is sorted by outfit, I need to figure out purses and jewelry.
I work in Herald Square in Midtown Manhattan so there are plenty of shopping options… If only I can find the time. (I’m not a busy person, but for some reason, I’ve been annoyingly busy with a bunch of other stuff these last couple of weeks, making shopping a difficulty.

For handbags, I have a small red Chanel bag that will be worn with the black jump suit and possibly the skirt, which is also black, again pending the color shirt found for this occasion. I’m very excited about it.

I don’t usually buy/wear clutches but I think I’ll need at least a black one (and probably a cream one too but whatever) for this trip. I’m kind of willing to invest in an expensive one. But when I say kind of I mean I spent $100 on toiletries Tuesday night in CVS for this trip and I can feel my bank account crying already so I’m trying not to. No one ever said style is cheap, right? sobs quietly

The jewelry  worn next week will most likely come out of the stock pile I already own. I don’t plan on buying anything new because I own way too many necklaces and bracelets as it is. I don’t go crazy with earrings because I feel like I look weird with ostentatious ears. And I lose rings for no other reason then when I go to wash my hands I take them off and forget put them back on. So, necklaces and bracelets. Ok?

Once I have everything figured out, I will try to post it here… more so that I can remember them but whatever.

Now that my outfits are covered, we will discuss hair and make up.

I need a new straightener. The one I have has been dropped too many times and only works when it feels like it. Again, very irritating. I have a curling iron (or at least my mom does) and hair spray therefore those are covered. I also have a massive amount of scrunchies and bobby pins so those are taken care of as well.

I plan on bringing an eye cover and ear plugs for the flight, just in case. I think it’s about 4 and a half hours overnight so I need to be prepared with a book and headphones too. We will be arriving at 12am Nevada time so I need to schedule a car to pick us up and bring us to the hotel. (I’m not a huge fan of taking a cab outside an airport. Taken ruined that for me, ya know?)

I don’t know what else needs to come with me and that makes me most nervous. I don’t like walking into something unprepared, even if it is just a bachelorette party. But i have a great feeling about next weekend.

Fingers crossed

“So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys – to woo women – and in that endeavor, laziness will not do.”

One of my favorite quotes about writing. I thought I would share it first…

I’d like to preface this post by saying I am not really the kind of person who is affected greatly by the deaths of celebrities. Of course I get sad, but it can be a little difficult to mourn someone you never knew.

I’d also like to say, this is not one of those times.

Robin Williams was an icon. He was a legend, a household name, the funny uncle you only saw on Thanksgiving and Christmas but who made family gatherings bearable. He was the guy I wanted to be like when I got older and he was an amazing comedian. He was good at what he did, and what he did was make people happy. Williams has affected the lives of millions during his 63 years on this earth and everyone thought he would continue to affect lives well into his 300’s (or at least I did… genies can’t die.)

I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around his death. He is a legend! Legends never die!!! While the details surrounding his death are still fuzzy, there is one thing that is certain:

Robin Williams, the funniest man on earth, suffered from depression.

Letting that sink in has done more damage to me than I care to admit. If someone who was that loved and who made that many people laugh, could suffer from depression… I don’t want to even think of what it could do to the average person.

At the moment, my tumblr has become a little baby shrine to Robin Williams.

Bless that man and all of the joy and laughter he has brought to the world. I hope he finds the peace that avoided him on earth. I hope he is finally happy. He brought happiness to millions of people. It’s his turn to smile.

Rest in the happiest, sun shiniest Peace Robin Williams. aladdin-genie

Vegas Countdown

First of all, I just realize how giant the picture of my boyfriend is down there… he will kill me if he realizes I wrote that post… Oops.

Secondly, I want nothing more than to take the longest nap ever and wake up refreshed and happy.

Thirdly, my count down to Vegas is now annoyingly close to the 3 week mark which is totally uncool. I don’t even have one outfit prepared.

I barely even have bathing suits!!!

This stress is going to give me an ulcer.

Of course my sister has everything ready and planned. I, on the other hand, am running around like a chicken without a head.

I still don’t have a tan and I’m definitely not in any better shape than I was in when I wrote that post 2 weeks ago.

If anyone has any suggestions for Vegas Outfits bring em on! Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Wish me luck kids, I’m goin in
